What you have suggested is a common cure for trimming out the problem caused
by one occupant.

One very neat solution I have seen is a small spring (Or bungee) attached to
the fork at the base of the control column. Other end is attached to a
"trim" lever mounted on the face of the pilot thigh support. Lever is moved
left or right to apply pressure on the control column and cancel out aileron
imbalances.

Apparently wing levellers still need aileron forces to be in balance
otherwise autopilot servo servo tends to hunt.
