Bob,
I made a copy of a conformal seat that is the kind used in large
conference rooms. It is a stackable chair. When I sit in it, it fits me
very nice and it supports me from my top to almost my knees. It supports
my back. It is made of 8 layers of glass with reinforcement around the
edges to keep it stiff. I have tilted it to give me a "slouch" of sorts.
It is like a race car tilt but not as "layed back" It hangs on a tab on
the back and it allows me to do long cross countys with out high pressure
points on my butt. It spreads the "load out over a larger area. I did a
trip to Oshkosh 3 tears ago and the regular seats were not comfortable .
My seats are about 3# each. I also put foam (sleeping bag cushion foam
1/4" thick) three layers thick between me and the seat.. I added layers
until I reached the height I wanted to clear the roof with my headset on.
I had 4 layers cut but used only three. The 4th layer will be used for
the passenger seat. (They only need one layer) . In my 20 hours I've
flown, its been quite comfortable. The seat just lifts out revealing my
fuel filters and hoses to it.
