Thank you for your interesting reply. Your method sounds good - and
adjustable even if you have to store the spare cushion. I think most have
"take out" cushions of some sort. When I wrote the note to the forum I was
wondering about seats in something like a Mini Moke, Citroen 2CV or a
Renault 4, However there is probably no room for mechanisms. But having BMW
do the seat shaping for you sounds a great idea. I will look into this at a
local wrecking yard.

I am 5 ft 10 or so (1.8 m) with a short body (and thus proportionally long
legs). Will have to fit myself in I guess and see what is needed, just like
everyone else.

I waited delivery of a kit to catch the XS console. Have been buying mods
ever since though!
