Richard - if you look at the PFA web-site you will find 
document TL 3.07 under Engineering.

It shows mod 10178 as "Fit a gascolator" and is a "mod 
approved for all of type".

So long as you are fitting the same (-ish) type of 
gascolator in the same (-ish) way the you call the PFA to 
ask for the details of mod 10178 to be sent to you, you 
get your inspector to sign the SF9 form to say that your 
aircraft is suitable, you fit the gascolator, and then the 
inspector signs it off on the SF9 as having being 
installed correctly, with maybe a test flight.

You then file the SF9 with your logbooks, and the PFA is 
informed at the time of the next annual.
