AS far as I can gather Level 6 was only invented in 2008 so if you have an
English language qualification dated prior to this you will almost certainly
need to have your records updated.

That's right. I succeeded in reaching level 6 some years ago (as
examined by a Dutch examiner ;-) ) and I never have to apply for it
again. This is only true for level 6.
