This problem drove me mad for a couple of years until I discovered the
magic
trick Ivor described.
Turn off both pumps and start the engine with about a 1/8in to =BCin of
throttle. It will fire up and run but you must
leave the pumps off until she starts to falter (say 5 to 10 seconds).
Then
turn on the main fuel pump and she continues to run.
This has worked well on both G-IANI and G-IRON (both 914) for the last
six
years.
