Paul, With the fine abrasive papers, and the polish, don't go round in circles, or you will get a '' Torvil and Dean '' effect, best to go ''up and down'' so any small residual marks will be in that plane, and not horizontal, which seems to show up more ? [ or you will be looking thru more of it on the horizon ?] If the scratches are deep, sand / polish a larger area, so as to get a gradual ''thinning'' rather than a ''dip''.
