Andrew,

The welding rod is to help you find the point on the LE to make the hole
with the template. It doesn't make a mark. To be honest it's a complete
bollock-ache way of doing it.

Much better is to use the technique already well described on this forum
using pieces of tape, a strong light, and the Mk.1 eyeball.

I'm sure you, of all people, don't need me to tell you how to search the
archives to find it! :-)

Regards,
Jeremy

I am confused by the Mod61A instructions. If I understand it correctly, the
probe tube is meant to go through the spar, penetrating the trailing and
leading rib flanges. So, what exactly is the purpose of the welding rod?
Since this is a flexible wire, it is going to flop around as you feed it
in. Furthermore, the instruction says the wire will put a mark into the
leading edge of the rib flange. How is this wire supposed to put a mark?
Even if it did, its not going to be visible anyway from outside the wing
skin. Ami I the only one who found this very confusing??

Thanks!
