Peter,

I am getting close to trying my design out. I'm doing the final
fitting of parts so the FAA can bless the bird and I can start flying.
The alternator is possibly a Honda unit but I don't know as I ordered it
as a Lester # which is the way alternator shops can do. I've taken in
consideration the pulse problems from the crank and safety issues of it
might freeze up. The reason I designed it this way is to keep the
accessory pad free for a hyd. controlled governor if wanted. I also
doesn't need any cowl mods. to work. It fit neatly in the cavity behind
the engine where nothing presently resides. I should know with in a month
whether its ok or not. The cowl mods to use the Rotax alternator is
completed by Bob at Flight Crafters. He has some ideas on how to do it
differently if wanted. The BUMP can be made smaller by a bit but Bob is
the one to talk to on that mod. P.S. my mod keeps the weight closer to
the fire wall but requires a bit of work to fit it. It all has trade
offs for us to get the Amps we would like to have. I have an all
electric panel so I wanted the bigger alt. (I also have a dual
electrical system also). I guess I'm on the fringe. All my military a/c
had dual electrical so I guess I felt I needed one. Believe me its not
needed for our type of flying. I just wanted to do it to see if it can
be done and how neatly it would fit. Some Pix are avail.

                                                                      Jim
