If I was choosing between the two engines above it would definitely be the
BMW. The rotary has already been tried in the Europa. As well as being very
inefficient on fuel consumption (slightly more than half the range of a
Rotax 912) it proved very difficult to set up. After a lot of development
work Europa gave up the idea. I believe that there is one BMW engine
version near completion in the UK. It has taken a long time as there were
problems with torsional vibration.

I think you might find that the diesel is a little too heavy for the Europa
as well. Great engine, wrong airframe for it.
