Hi kevin,

I am still a builder but have had chance to do a bit flying recently (thanks
William!) and the pitch trim is sensitive. The trick seems to be to "blip"
the switch for a very short period of time to get final trim position.
Regarding the instument problems, I agree you should not attempt self
maintenance on these . Regarding the altimeter, it should be getting the
same static feed as the ASI and VSI and the ASI is a faster reacting
instrumnet so if that is not fluctuating it probably is the altimeter that
is at fault, but it is worth disconnecting it and letting it sense cabin
pressure to see if that fixes the fluctuation. I understand a number of
owners do this as standard.

Regarding the attitude instrument, I assume it is a vacuum driven one? If
it is, check the vacuum pump is giving enough suction (pump worn out/ filter
blocked?).

Hope this helps.

Brian Davies kit 454, getting closer.
