To those who are not past Ch. 13 - Flying controls:

Ref. recent postings regarding correct installation of the forward and rear
bearings for the flying control system, where the correct lateral spacing
between the two forward, resp'ly the two rear bearings has been emphasized,
as well as the importance of having the same spacing forward and aft, and
that the whole set-up must be square to the pitch torque tube CS10. The
following may be helpful for those not having come this far yet:

The spacing is given as 66.65 cm (26.25") in the B.M. This corresponds to
the spacing between the two pairs of lugs on the pitch torque tube CS10.
Therefore, CS10 itself can be used to measure and control the distance
during bonding in the bearings. Thus, any mis-reading is avoided, and it is
especially useful for the forward bearings where a straight-line measurement
is not possible because of the cockpit module center tunnel being in the
way. Place the outside (meaning towards the nearest end of CS10) of the
outer lug of one pair against the side of one tube (at the horizontal
diameter, of course), and the inside of the inner lug of the other pair
against the same side of the other tube. (Maybe difficult language here, but
just try it and you'll immediately see what I mean).

Good luck - it gives such a nice feeling to get this particular set-up
right!
