Rob; when you said it would interfere with the constant speed prop is it safe
to presume you meant it would interefere with a hydraulic prop and not an
electric
constant speed prop like the Air Master which I ordered? Thanks

and browse (or search) for a recent thread on "electric gyros" and you will
soon be convinced that it is beneficial to get rid of the unreliable vacuum
pump in favor of a second alternator for your all-electric panel. If you
plan to fly in the clouds this should be a no-brainer decision, but the
other trade-off is the constant speed prop you'll not have.

Browse the list some more and you will realize that 18 A is probably
adequate, but redundancy requires the second alternator anyway.

Hi All;

I'm sorry to say that I've buried my head in the sand regarding the
relatively small amp output from the Rotax 914 I'm considering. It seems
unbelievable to me that a $15,000 turbo charged engine would have such low
amperage output...I mean geez.... the landing lights, strobe and
nav/position lights alone eat up 15 amps.

Is it true that the only option is to add a second alternator (in lieu of
vacuum so goodbye vacuum instruments)?

I'm planning my panel and seems that space in the 3/4 length panel isn't the
only limiting factor. Comments would sure be appreciated. Thanks
