Careful folks, the torque tube is nickel plated 4130 steel and if you get
too aggressive with the "polishing" the underlying steel will be exposed.

I also had the same problem. My tube appeared to have three evenly spaced
high spots as if iy had been clamped slightly too hard in a three jawed
chuck. I ended up spending a few hours polishing the tube with fine emery
paper until the bushes slid on and off easily.

I had the same problem at first, but things improved greatly after I cleaned
the torque tube with acetone to remove marks left by packaging tape. Using a
little oil also helped.
