RE: Landing Lights

I purchased a pair of small 55W halogen "driving lights" with the intention
of mounting them in the wing of my Europa. Upon closer examination, even
though the lights are only about 2.5" across, they would need to be fitted
fairly far back into the wing to work. The leading edge (of the XS wing,
and presumably the original wing) is very sharp. The light must clear the
wing skin a bit for heat dissipation. This would put the lights about seven
of eight inches into the wing, resulting in an ugly installation and either
a large lens hole or a tunnel beam. I considered replacing the round lights
with a different set that are about 1.5" by 6", but the beam pattern is
not nearly as good, I spent nearly $130 US on the lights (they're
excellent), and I lost the receipt. Therefore, they'll go in the fuselage.

Another alternative might be to install them in the wing using a drop-down
mechanism.

Gidday,
I am in the process of setting up my leading edges of my Europa Classic and
was wondering if anyone has installed a wing mounted, leading edge landing
light? I am aware of Bob Nuckolls recent posting about landing lights and
was wondering if anyone would like to comment on the feasibility, or
whether it is best to mount one on the bottom engine cowl, or on the
maingear somewhere? Thanks in anticipation.
