Is it actually dangerous to fly with the canopy partly secured?

Bob Williams

If the door is latched at the front only, the suction on the the door in flight
will cause it to lift at the back, twisting on the hinges, which will in turn
cause the shoot bolt at the front to come partially out of the hole in the
frame.
Once this happens the whole door will be lifted by the suction, and in the
process of lifting will probably tear the door off the hinges. So yes, it is
dangerous.

We introduced a Mod (Mod 39) which reduced the clearance between the shoot bolt
and the door frame, making it much more difficult to close the door incorrectly.

Roger Bull
