Re: Firewall Panels

Here's a question to those who have installed their engines ...

I fabricated the stainless steel panels which wrap around the landing gear
mounting frame and fit between the two footwells as per the diagrams. Is
all a nice fit the panels laying flush over the frame and also flush with
the rear of the holes in the footwells each side for the rudder pedals.

The templates have a couple of slots indicated for the rudder cables but
now I have fitted the rudder pedals back on I find that I now cannot
achieve any left rudder movement at all (and only partial right) because
the rudder pedal arms in the footwell are not free to move either side of
the landing gear frame - in fact when the rudder pedals are neutral the
right rudder arm is in contact with the stainless steel panel and thus
cannot move any further rearwards.

Are you supposed to cut larger slots in the panels to allow the arms to
freely move? if so why don't the instructions tell you that or show
additional areas to cut on the templates?

If you do end up making larger slots in the stainless steel, whats the
point of the silcone sealant around the edges to prevent gasses passing
into the wheel well?

Any comments would be appreciated.
