You can mix these if you want to create a medium hardener.
I found that using the standard hardener alone, in a workshop temperature
above 21 celcius, resulted in too many exothermed pots so I did all the rest
of the work with a mix of the two. This gave good work time and resulted in
leather trim stage being around four hours after the layup.
For the big (BIG) wing layups I would suggest you use the slow hardener
alone. Each of the wing layups takes 5-6 hours so you want as long a work
time as possible.
Now that I am on to the assembly stage where the layups are small I have
changed to standard hardener only but ensure that I only mix as much as I
need immediately and keep my eyes on the pot!
Quite a few builders down in this part of the world are doing the filling
with West Systems Epoxy rather than Ampreg 20. SP in Auckland suggested using
another epoxy for the filling, recommending one of their other products over
Ampreg 20 for this type of work. The primary reason for this is to reduce the
amount of arm work required to sand the surface back. Unfortunately the
product they recommend has a work time of only 20 minutes so it looks like I
will be using West Systems as well.
Good luck with the tailplane.
